A Few Losses, Big Trade, Goodbye Josh Howard
So I’ve been lacking in the updates. So the Mavericks had a few losses, actually losing like 5 of their last 7games. But now, a big 7 player trade occurred right before the All-Star weekend where the Mavs sent Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, James Singleton and Quinton Ross to the Wizards for Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson.
I really like this trade and I think we got the better players out of the deal, especially with the ailing Josh Howard who’s been injured prone for the past two seasons, who seems to not care as much nowadays about his playing ability. I did like Drew Gooden but I figured he was picked up at the beginning of the season for this exact reasoning, to trade or deal in a multi-player trade.
Caron Butler brings on a healthy starter for the Mavericks, who averages what Josh did for us before injuries started sidelining him. Haywood was the leading rebounder for the Wizards, so I already think that’s a plus. He can likely replace Dampier as our starting center, putting up good numbers and even better numbers than Dampier. He also played at UNC during college, that’s always a plus for me since that’s my college team.
So let’s hope these guys can help the Mavericks for the remainder of the season, stay healthy and give us the needed boost and confidence in the playoffs this season. Perhaps with these additions, the Mavs are the new team to beat.

Hate to see Howard go but think the trade does make us better. It will be interesting to see the chemistry of the team after the trade since they’ll be replacing a few guys who haven’t had many minutes in the rotation with a couple new guys who could get lots of minutes. I’m hoping that doesn’t negatively affect some of the other players.
Very true. Don’t you have a Howard jersey? If so, isn’t every player jersey you get either gets traded or retires?
I like the new players, although mid-season trades can usually result badly, I hope these new additions stick around if they mesh well with the rest of the team. I’m sure they’re happy to be on a winning team now anyways.
I’m actually kind of glad Howard is off our hands now. He’s either going to become an All-Star again once healthy or just be injury prone the rest of his career. I’m sure they tried to push Dampier onto the Wizards but if that’s true, Wizards were smart to take Gooden instead. Sadly I don’t think any team will take Dampier and we’re stuck with him and his contract til it expires.
Yeah, have 2 Finley jersey’s and one Howard jersey. Had a Barkely Suns and a Hardaway Magic jersey back in the day the year before they got traded as well.
I heard Dampier got injured last night so that trade my payoff nicely shortly. I know Mavs lost last night, but OKC is a good team so I can’t judge the trade based off one loss against a good team when we won’t be jelling for a few weeks.
